- Botanical Name: Samar lance
- Common Names: Elephant's Ear
- Description: The Alocasia Scalprum is a member of the aroid plant family, which includes popular varieties like Philodendron, Monstera, and Anthurium. Native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, this plant is prized for its unique, elongated leaves that resemble a scalpel.
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch leaves, while too little causes pale, weak growth.
- Water: Keep soil consistently moist but never soggy. Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings to avoid root rot.
- Humidity & Temperature: Thrives in high humidity (above 50-60%). Use a humidifier or pebble tray. Keep temperatures above 60°F (15C)
- Soil & Potting: Use a chunky, well-draining mix (e.g., potting soil mixed with orchid bark, perlite, and charcoal). Ensure the pot has drainage holes.
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Dormancy: In winter, Alocasia may go dormant, losing leaves if temperatures drop or light decreases. Reduce watering significantly during this time.
- Toxicity: All parts of the plant are poisonous to humans and pets if ingested.
