- Botanical Name: Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek'
- Common Names: Frydek, Green Velvet Alocasia
Run your hand across a Frydek leaf and you'll understand immediately why collectors call it Green Velvet. The deep, forest-green surface is impossibly soft to the touch — arrowhead-shaped, dramatic, and lined with crisp white veins that seem almost painted on. The burgundy undersides add one more layer of quiet drama. This is a plant that earns a permanent spot in any serious collection.
Care Requirements
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun scorches the velvety leaves; too little causes pale, weak growth.
- Water: Keep soil consistently moist but never soggy. Allow the top 1–2 inches to dry between waterings to avoid root rot.
- Humidity & Temp: Thrives above 50–60% humidity. Use a humidifier or pebble tray. Keep temperatures above 60°F (15°C).
- Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix — potting soil, orchid bark, perlite, and charcoal. Ensure the pot has drainage holes.
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half-strength every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer.
- Dormancy: May go dormant in winter, losing leaves if light or temperatures drop. Reduce watering significantly during this period.
- Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Available in 3", 4", and 6" pot sizes.
