* Botanical Name: Alocasia Reginula

* Common Names: Black Velvet

* Description: The Alocasia Reginula also known as the African Mask or Elephant Ear is all about the unusual and unique alien looking leaves. The Alocasia Reginula is a unique houseplant but beware that it is on the harder side to care for. It requires bright, indirect sunlight as well as soil that is constantly moist from watering. Toxic to pets.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch leaves, while too little causes pale, weak growth.
  • Water: Keep soil consistently moist but never soggy. Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings to avoid root rot.
  • Humidity & Temperature: Thrives in high humidity (above 50-60%). Use a humidifier or pebble tray. Keep temperatures above 60°F (15C)
  • Soil & Potting: Use a chunky, well-draining mix (e.g., potting soil mixed with orchid bark, perlite, and charcoal). Ensure the pot has drainage holes.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Dormancy: In winter, Alocasia may go dormant, losing leaves if temperatures drop or light decreases. Reduce watering significantly during this time.
  • Toxicity: All parts of the plant are poisonous to humans and pets if ingested
