The ZZ Black Queen (Zamioculcas zamiifolia 'Black Queen') is the most dramatic houseplant in the room — and it knows it. New leaves emerge in a bright, glossy green before slowly, gradually deepening to a rich, near-black purple that gives the whole plant a moody, sculptural presence unlike anything else in the houseplant world. The transformation happens over weeks as each new stem matures, meaning the plant is always showing multiple tones at once — fresh green new growth alongside deep, dark mature stems — creating a living color gradient that's endlessly fascinating.
Native to the dry forests and grasslands of eastern Africa, Zamioculcas zamiifolia is one of the most drought-tolerant houseplants on the planet. Its thick, waxy stems and underground rhizomes store water so efficiently that it can go weeks between waterings without complaint. It thrives in low light, tolerates neglect, and grows slowly and steadily into a sculptural specimen that looks better with every passing year. The Black Queen cultivar brings all of that legendary ZZ toughness with the added drama of near-black foliage — making it one of the most compelling collector plants available.
🌿 Fun Facts
The dark color of the Black Queen's mature leaves comes from high concentrations of anthocyanins — the same pigments responsible for the deep purple of eggplant and red cabbage. The color develops gradually as the leaves age and is most intense in bright indirect light.
Zamioculcas zamiifolia is sometimes called the Eternity Plant or Fortune Tree — in parts of Africa and Asia it's considered a symbol of prosperity and good luck, and it's a popular gift plant for new homes and offices.
ZZ Plants are so drought-tolerant that they were once thought to be succulents. They're actually aroids — relatives of Philodendron and Monstera — but their water-storing rhizomes give them succulent-level drought resistance.
💡 Pro Tips
Light: Thrives in low to bright indirect light — one of the best low-light houseplants available. Brighter light intensifies the dark color of mature leaves.
Water: Water every 2–3 weeks, allowing soil to dry out completely between waterings. When in doubt, wait. Overwatering is the only real way to harm a ZZ Plant.
Humidity: Adapts to any household humidity level. No misting needed.
Soil: A well-draining potting mix or cactus blend is ideal. Good drainage is essential.
Fertilizer: Feed lightly 2–3 times during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.
Important: ZZ Plants are toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Perfect for: Low-light rooms, offices, bedrooms, and anyone looking for a near-black statement houseplant that thrives on minimal care and maximum drama.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
