The ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) is the houseplant that has earned its legendary reputation one neglected corner at a time. Its thick, waxy, deep green leaflets arch gracefully along sturdy stems in a clean, architectural silhouette that looks equally at home in a minimalist apartment, a corporate office, or a dim bathroom where nothing else will grow. It's modern, sculptural, and effortlessly stylish — and it genuinely thrives on being left alone.
Native to the dry forests and rocky grasslands of eastern Africa — from Kenya and Tanzania down to South Africa — Zamioculcas zamiifolia evolved to survive months of drought by storing water in its thick underground rhizomes. That adaptation makes it one of the most drought-tolerant houseplants on the planet. It handles low light, dry air, irregular watering, and general neglect with a resilience that borders on supernatural. If you've ever killed a houseplant and sworn off trying again, the ZZ Plant is your redemption arc.
🌿 Fun Facts
The ZZ Plant was largely unknown in the houseplant trade until the late 1990s, when Dutch nurseries began mass-propagating it. Within a decade it had become one of the most popular office plants in the world — a remarkably fast rise for a plant that had been growing quietly in African forests for millions of years.
ZZ Plants are aroids — relatives of Monstera, Philodendron, and Peace Lily — despite looking nothing like them. Their underground rhizomes are the giveaway: a classic aroid trait adapted here for extreme water storage.
The glossy sheen on ZZ leaves isn't a coating or treatment — it's the natural surface of the leaf itself, which is covered in a thick, waxy cuticle that reduces water loss and gives the plant its characteristic polished look.
💡 Pro Tips
Light: Low to bright indirect light — one of the most light-flexible houseplants available. It grows faster in brighter light but genuinely survives in very dim conditions.
Water: Water every 2–3 weeks, allowing soil to dry out completely between waterings. The rhizomes store water, so underwatering is almost never a problem. Overwatering is the only real risk.
Humidity: Adapts to any household humidity level. No misting needed.
Soil: A well-draining potting mix or cactus blend is ideal. Good drainage is essential to prevent rhizome rot.
Fertilizer: Feed lightly 2–3 times during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.
Important: ZZ Plants are toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Perfect for: Offices, low-light rooms, beginners, frequent travelers, and anyone who wants a genuinely beautiful, nearly indestructible houseplant that looks great doing absolutely nothing.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
