The Syngonium 'Red Arrow' is the Syngonium that breaks all the rules. While most arrowhead plants are celebrated for their leaf surface color or variegation, the Red Arrow hides its most dramatic feature underneath — a deep, vivid purple that covers the entire underside of every leaf. Flip one over and you'll understand immediately why collectors seek this plant out. It's a two-sided showstopper.
Unlike the common Syngonium podophyllum varieties, the Red Arrow belongs to Syngonium erythrophyllum — a distinct species whose name literally translates to "red leaf" in Greek, a nod to that signature purple-red coloration. Young leaves emerge as bright, vivid green arrow shapes with that bold purple underside. But as the plant matures and begins to climb, something remarkable happens: the leaves transform entirely, dividing into 3 lobes or up to 5–9 distinct leaflets that bear almost no resemblance to the juvenile foliage. It's like getting two completely different plants in one.
Light: Medium to bright indirect light; keep out of direct sun to prevent leaf scorch
Water: Keep consistently moist during the growing season; allow to dry slightly between waterings in winter
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity; adapts to average household conditions
Growth Habit: Evergreen climber; juvenile leaves are arrow-shaped, mature leaves divide into multi-lobed leaflets
Pet Safety: Toxic to pets if ingested — keep out of reach of cats and dogs
Fun Facts About Syngonium 'Red Arrow'
The purple underside of the Red Arrow's leaves is caused by anthocyanins — the same pigments responsible for the red and purple colors in blueberries, red cabbage, and autumn leaves. In plants, anthocyanins often serve as a kind of sunscreen, protecting the leaf tissue from excess light. In the Red Arrow, they're concentrated on the underside, creating that dramatic two-tone effect that makes the plant so visually striking from below.
The leaf transformation as the plant matures is one of the most dramatic in the entire Syngonium genus. Collectors who grow the Red Arrow on a moss pole are often surprised by how different the mature leaves look — deeply lobed, almost tropical-looking, and nothing like the compact arrow shapes of the juvenile plant.
Pro Care Tips
Show off the underside: Display in a hanging basket or elevated position so the purple undersides are visible from below
Give it a pole: A moss pole triggers the dramatic leaf transformation — the mature multi-lobed leaves are spectacular
Keep it moist (but not wet): More moisture-tolerant than some Syngoniums during the growing season, but always avoid waterlogged soil
Boost humidity: A pebble tray or humidifier keeps this tropical species at its best
Fertilize in season: A balanced liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer supports healthy, fast growth

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
