Not every plant needs to be bright to be beautiful. The Syngonium 'Merry' makes its statement in deep, moody tones — rich dark green leaves flushed with red that give it a dramatic, almost velvety presence that stands apart from the pinks, whites, and neons of other Syngonium varieties. It's the arrowhead plant for people who appreciate depth over flash.
A cultivar of Syngonium podophyllum, the Merry is an evergreen perennial native to Central and South America. Like all Syngoniums, it starts compact and arrow-shaped before maturing into a trailing or climbing vine with increasingly complex leaf forms. But where other varieties lean into color contrast or variegation, the Merry leans into richness — a deep, saturated palette that looks stunning against light walls, neutral shelves, and bright ceramics alike.

Fun Facts About Syngonium 'Merry'
The dark red-green coloration of the Merry comes from a combination of chlorophyll (green) and anthocyanins (red-purple pigments) in the leaf tissue. The balance between these two pigment types determines how dark or red the leaves appear — and that balance can shift depending on light levels. In brighter light, the anthocyanins are more active and the red tones deepen. In lower light, the green chlorophyll dominates and the leaves shift toward a darker, more muted green.
Syngoniums are also known as shape-shifters: the compact arrow-shaped juvenile leaves gradually transform into multi-lobed, more complex forms as the plant matures and climbs. On the Merry, this transformation adds another layer of visual interest as the deeper coloration plays out across increasingly dramatic leaf shapes.
Pro Care Tips
Deepen the red: Brighter indirect light intensifies the red-green contrast — position near a window for the most dramatic coloration
Don't overwater: Root rot is the primary risk — always let the soil partially dry between waterings
Train it up: A moss pole encourages climbing and triggers larger, more dramatically colored mature leaves
Boost humidity: A pebble tray or humidifier keeps this Central American native thriving
Fertilize lightly: A balanced liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer supports healthy, steady growth

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
