The Variegated Schefflera (Schefflera arboricola) is the Dwarf Umbrella Tree with a personality upgrade. Its glossy, oblong leaflets radiate outward in the classic umbrella arrangement — but on this form, the leaves are boldly splashed and streaked with creamy yellow variegation in patterns that vary from leaf to leaf and plant to plant. Some leaves are mostly green with yellow edges; others are heavily splashed with gold. No two plants look exactly alike, which makes every one a genuinely individual specimen.
Like all Schefflera arboricola, this variegated form is native to Taiwan and southern China, where it grows as a shrubby understory plant in warm, humid forests. Indoors, it's one of the most adaptable variegated tropicals you can own — holding its color even in lower light conditions where many variegated plants revert to solid green. It grows at a satisfying pace, develops a woody, branching structure over time, and stays tidy enough for shelves and desks while having the potential to become a striking floor plant as it matures.
🌿 Fun Facts
The irregular, unpredictable splash pattern of variegated Schefflera is caused by chimeric cell mutations — meaning different genetic populations of cells coexist in the same leaf, producing the random, painterly distribution of yellow and green that makes each leaf unique.
Variegated Schefflera are among the few variegated houseplants that can maintain their patterning in lower light — most variegated plants revert to solid green when light levels drop, but Schefflera holds its color with impressive consistency.
In Taiwan, variegated forms of Schefflera arboricola are particularly prized in bonsai cultivation for the added visual interest the two-toned foliage brings to the miniature tree form.
💡 Pro Tips
Light: Bright indirect light produces the most vivid, high-contrast variegation. It tolerates lower light well and holds its color better than most variegated plants in dim conditions.
Water: Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Good drainage is essential — overwatering is the most common issue.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity but adapts well to average household conditions.
Pruning: Trim to shape and encourage bushier growth. Schefflera responds well to pruning and fills back in quickly with fresh, variegated growth.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.
Important: Schefflera are toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Perfect for: Shelves, desks, bright rooms, and anyone looking for a bold, one-of-a-kind variegated tropical houseplant that holds its color and keeps growing more beautiful over time.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
