The Philodendron Sun Red lives up to its name in the best possible way. New leaves emerge in vivid shades of red, copper, and burnt orange — warm, fiery tones that gradually deepen and mature into rich, glossy green. The contrast between the glowing new growth and the dark mature leaves gives this plant a layered, dynamic look that changes constantly as it grows. Compact, self-heading, and genuinely easy to care for, it's one of the most rewarding tropical houseplants you can add to a collection.
Fun fact: The Sun Red is a hybrid of Philodendron selloum (now reclassified as Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum), selected specifically for its intense red-to-copper new leaf coloration. Like the Red Heart, the warm tones in new leaves are caused by anthocyanins — pigments that dominate before chlorophyll fully develops. What makes the Sun Red distinctive is the particular warmth of its color range: less burgundy, more copper and amber, with an almost sun-kissed quality that earns it its name. Bright indirect light is key to keeping that color vivid and the growth strong.
Care Guide
Light: Bright, indirect light is essential for maintaining the vivid red-copper coloration in new leaves and keeping growth vigorous. It can tolerate some early morning direct sun, but avoid harsh afternoon sun which scorches the leaves. Too little light dulls the color and slows growth.
Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings — roughly every 7–10 days depending on your environment. Overwatering causes yellowing leaves and root rot. Always use a pot with drainage holes.
Humidity: Thrives in 50–70% humidity. A humidifier nearby, a pebble tray, or grouping with other plants all help. It adapts to average household levels but rewards higher humidity with faster, lusher growth.
Temperature: Ideal range is 65°F–80°F (18°C–27°C). Keep away from cold drafts and AC vents.
Soil: Use a well-draining aroid mix — potting soil with perlite and orchid bark works great. Good drainage prevents root rot.
Fertilizer: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Skip in fall and winter.
Maintenance: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them clean and glossy. Prune any yellowing or damaged foliage to encourage new growth.
Pro Tip: Place it somewhere it gets consistent bright indirect light — a spot near a bright window that doesn't get harsh afternoon sun is ideal. The more consistent the light, the more reliably it pushes out those stunning copper-red new leaves.
Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
