The Philodendron Red Heart turns heads the moment a new leaf unfurls. New growth emerges in rich shades of burgundy, copper, and deep red before gradually maturing to a glossy, dark green — giving the plant a layered, two-toned look that's constantly evolving. Large, heart-shaped leaves and a self-heading, upright growth habit make it a bold statement piece that holds its own in any room. If you're looking for a collector-worthy tropical houseplant with genuine drama, this is it.
Fun fact: The red coloration in new Philodendron leaves is caused by anthocyanins — the same pigments responsible for red and purple tones in many fruits and vegetables. In young leaves, chlorophyll hasn't fully developed yet, so the anthocyanins dominate. As the leaf matures and chlorophyll production ramps up, the red fades to green. The Red Heart is selected specifically for the intensity and duration of that red phase — making each new leaf a genuine event worth watching.
Care Guide
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal — it encourages vigorous growth and the most vivid red coloration in new leaves. Too much direct sun causes yellowing; too little slows growth and dulls the color. An east or west-facing window is perfect.
Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Keep moisture consistent — overwatering can cause leaves to "melt" (collapse before fully unfurling), while underwatering stresses the plant. Always use a pot with drainage holes.
Humidity & Temperature: Prefers humidity of 50% or higher, though it adapts to average household levels. Ideal temps are 65°F–85°F (18°C–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and AC vents.
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix — standard potting soil amended with orchid bark and perlite is ideal. Good drainage prevents the root rot this plant is susceptible to.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Skip in fall and winter.
Maintenance: Prune any dead or browning leaves to encourage new growth. Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to keep them clean and glossy.
Propagation: Easily propagated via stem cuttings in water. Root in a bright, warm spot for best results.
Pro Tip: Watch for new leaves carefully — if a new leaf starts to emerge but seems stuck or collapses before opening, low humidity is usually the culprit. Boost it with a humidifier or move it to a more humid spot and the next leaf should unfurl cleanly.
Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
