The Philodendron Congo Green is the kind of plant that earns its spot in a room. Big, glossy, deep-green leaves emerge one at a time from a central rosette, each one unfurling slowly and dramatically like it knows you're watching. Unlike vining Philodendrons, the Congo Green is self-heading — it grows upright and outward, building into a bold, architectural statement piece without needing a pole, trellis, or anything to climb. Low-fuss, high-impact, and built to last.
Fun fact: The Congo Green is a hybrid Philodendron, not a species found in the wild. It was bred specifically for its compact, self-supporting growth habit and its large, paddle-shaped leaves that hold their deep green color reliably indoors. Those small sticky droplets you might notice on new leaves? Completely normal — they're called extrafloral nectaries, a natural secretion that has nothing to do with pests.
Care Guide
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light — an east or west-facing window is ideal. It adapts well to lower light, but growth will slow and leaves will be smaller. Avoid direct sun, which will scorch the leaves.
Watering: Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry, roughly every 7–10 days. This plant is sensitive to overwatering — soggy soil leads to root rot fast. Always use a pot with drainage holes and never let it sit in standing water.
Humidity & Temperature: Thrives in 50–60% humidity but adapts to average household levels. Ideal temps are 65°F–85°F (18°C–29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and AC vents.
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining potting mix — standard potting soil cut with perlite or orchid bark works well. Good drainage is essential.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Skip in fall and winter.
Maintenance: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them looking their best. Prune any yellowing or old leaves to maintain shape and encourage new growth.
Troubleshooting
Yellow leaves: Almost always a sign of overwatering — let the soil dry out more between waterings.
Drooping or dull appearance: Usually underwatering or water stress — give it a thorough drink.
New leaves struggling to unfurl: Low humidity is the culprit — boost it with a humidifier or gentle misting.
Sticky droplets on leaves: Natural and harmless — these are extrafloral nectaries, not a pest issue.
Pro Tip: The Congo Green is one of the best large-leaf houseplants for anyone who wants a dramatic tropical look without the fuss of a climbing plant. Give it a bright spot and it will reward you with a steady stream of new leaves all season long.
Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
