The Peperomia Rosso (Peperomia caperata 'Rosso') is a plant of two faces — and both of them are stunning. The top of each leaf is deeply grooved and corrugated in a rich, glossy dark green that catches light in ridges and valleys. Flip it over and you get a vivid, wine-red underside that makes the whole plant glow with warmth when backlit. It's one of the most dramatic color contrasts in the compact houseplant world, and it earns a second look every single time.
Native to tropical Brazil, Peperomia caperata is a compact, upright grower that produces pointed, textured leaves in a tight rosette. The 'Rosso' cultivar was developed specifically for its intense red undersides and is one of the most awarded Peperomia cultivars in the ornamental plant industry — it has won multiple Royal Horticultural Society awards for its striking appearance and reliable performance. Like all Peperomia, it stores water in its thick leaves, making it drought-tolerant, forgiving, and completely non-toxic to cats and dogs.
🌿 Fun Facts
The red color on the undersides of the leaves comes from anthocyanins — the same pigments found in red cabbage and blueberries. In plants, anthocyanins often serve as a secondary light-harvesting system, capturing light that filters through the upper leaf surface.
Peperomia caperata is one of the few Peperomia species that flowers reliably indoors — producing slender, upright white flower spikes (called rat-tail inflorescences) that add a subtle seasonal bonus to the plant's year-round appeal.
The deeply corrugated leaf texture of caperata (which means wrinkled in Latin) is thought to help the plant manage water loss in its native Brazilian forest habitat by reducing the leaf surface area exposed to direct airflow.
💡 Pro Tips
Light: Bright to medium indirect light is ideal. The red undersides are most vivid and intense in brighter conditions — in lower light the color softens.
Water: Allow soil to dry out between waterings. The thick leaves store moisture efficiently, so overwatering is a bigger risk than underwatering.
Humidity: Adapts well to average household humidity. No misting needed.
Soil: A well-draining potting mix or cactus blend works perfectly. Good drainage is essential.
Fertilizer: Feed lightly once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.
Perfect for: Shelves, desks, windowsills, pet-friendly homes, and anyone looking for a compact two-toned houseplant with genuine sculptural drama and almost zero maintenance.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
