Meet the Kangaroo Paw Fern (Microsorum diversifolium) — a bold, glossy Australian native that brings a wild, naturalistic energy to any indoor space. With its long, deeply lobed dark green fronds and a high-gloss sheen that catches light from across the room, this is a fern that looks polished and effortless at the same time. It's equally at home trailing from a hanging basket, sprawling across a wide planter, or creeping over the edge of a shelf in that perfectly imperfect way that makes a space feel alive.
What makes the Kangaroo Paw Fern especially appealing is how genuinely easy it is to keep happy. Unlike finicky ferns that drop fronds the moment humidity dips, this Australian native is built for adaptability — tolerating a wider range of light levels, humidity, and watering schedules than most of its fern cousins. Its creeping rhizomes (the fuzzy, root-like structures that wander over the soil surface) are a signature trait of the species and a sign of a healthy, actively growing plant.
🌿 Fun Facts
The common name Kangaroo Paw comes from the fuzzy, scale-covered rhizomes that creep along the soil surface — they really do look like tiny kangaroo feet.
This fern is native to the coastal forests and rocky outcrops of southeastern Australia and New Zealand, where it grows on eucalyptus bark and sandstone cliffs.
Microsorum diversifolium is remarkably variable — fronds on the same plant can range from simple, undivided leaves to deeply lobed ones depending on age, light, and growing conditions.
💡 Pro Tips
Light: Medium to bright indirect light is ideal, but it handles lower light better than most ferns — a great option for rooms that don't get a lot of natural light.
Water: Keep soil evenly moist with good drainage. It's more forgiving of occasional dry spells than typical ferns, but consistent moisture keeps it looking its best.
Humidity: Average household humidity works fine. It appreciates a boost from a pebble tray or occasional misting but won't throw a fit without it.
Rhizomes: Let the creeping rhizomes roam freely over the soil surface — never bury them. They're part of the plant's natural growth habit and add to its character.
Hanging baskets: This fern is a natural for hanging displays — the fronds trail beautifully and the rhizomes add texture as they spill over the edge.
Perfect for: Hanging baskets, wide planters, low-light rooms, and anyone who wants a low-maintenance fern houseplant with genuine Australian character and year-round good looks.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
