The Green Flame Fern (Microsorum punctatum 'Green Flame') is what happens when a fern decides to be a sculpture. Its broad, glossy fronds grow upright with a lush tropical presence, then fan out at the tips into dramatic crested, forked ends that give the plant its signature flame-like silhouette. No two fronds are exactly alike — each one splits and fans differently, creating a layered, textural display that looks intentionally designed. It's one of the most visually distinctive ferns you can grow indoors, and it earns its place on any shelf, stand, or statement corner.
A member of the Microsorum genus, the Green Flame is a tropical epiphyte native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific, where it grows on trees and rocky surfaces in warm, humid forest environments. Indoors, it adapts well to the conditions of a home and is more forgiving than its dramatic appearance suggests. It's also completely non-toxic to cats and dogs — making it a standout choice for pet-friendly plant lovers who don't want to compromise on visual impact.
🌿 Fun Facts
The crested, forked frond tips on 'Green Flame' are a result of fasciation — a rare growth phenomenon where the growing tip flattens and fans out instead of forming a single point. In the wild this is a random mutation; in cultivation it's been stabilized through selective propagation.
Microsorum punctatum is sometimes called the Dwarf Elkhorn Fern due to its forked frond tips, which loosely resemble the antlers of an elk — though it's unrelated to the true Elkhorn (Platycerium).
Like most epiphytic ferns, the Green Flame absorbs moisture and nutrients through its fronds as well as its roots — making occasional misting genuinely beneficial, not just decorative.
💡 Pro Tips
Light: Bright filtered indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun, which scorches the glossy fronds and dulls their sheen.
Water: Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Don't let it dry out completely — this fern prefers steady moisture over boom-and-bust watering cycles.
Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity. Mist the fronds occasionally, use a pebble tray, or place near a humidifier for best results.
Soil: A loose, richly organic mix with good drainage works best — slightly acidic pH is ideal.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.
Perfect for: Plant collectors, pet-friendly homes, tropical-themed interiors, and anyone looking for a sculptural fern houseplant that genuinely looks like nothing else.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
