If you've ever wanted a houseplant that looks like it belongs in a rainforest canopy, the Bird's Nest Fern (Asplenium nidus) is it. Named for the tight, nest-like rosette at its center where new fronds emerge in slow, elegant spirals, this tropical classic delivers some of the most impressive foliage in the houseplant world. Broad, glossy, ripple-edged fronds in a vivid light green can reach up to 5 feet long in ideal conditions — making it one of the most architecturally dramatic ferns you can grow indoors.
Native to the humid rainforests of tropical Asia and East Africa, Asplenium nidus is an epiphyte that naturally grows on tree trunks and branches, collecting leaf litter in its central cup to feed itself. Indoors, it adapts beautifully to the warm, indirect light of a home or office, and it's one of the more forgiving ferns out there — tolerating lower light and average humidity better than most. Bonus: it's completely non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a rare find for pet-friendly plant lovers.
🌿 Fun Facts
In the wild, Bird's Nest Ferns can grow massive — up to 5 feet across — perched high in tropical tree canopies where they catch falling debris for nutrients.
Asplenium nidus is one of the oldest fern genera on Earth, with fossil records dating back over 300 million years.
The fronds are edible in some cultures — young, unfurled fronds are eaten as a vegetable in parts of Southeast Asia and Taiwan.
💡 Pro Tips
Light: Thrives in low to bright indirect light. The more light it gets (without direct sun), the larger and faster the fronds grow.
Water: Keep soil evenly moist — always water around the base, never into the central rosette, which can cause crown rot.
Humidity: Loves moisture in the air. Bathrooms and kitchens are ideal; a pebble tray or humidifier works great elsewhere.
Temperature: Happiest between 60–80°F. Keep away from cold drafts and heating vents.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer. Less is more — over-fertilizing causes brown, crinkled frond edges.
Perfect for: Pet owners, low-light spaces, bathrooms, offices, and anyone searching for a bold, air-purifying indoor fern that's genuinely easy to love.

Alocasia Variegated Frydek Brandie Perry
The plant did not arrive in great shape. However, it was an alocasia and I did not add insulation so this is not on the seller (and we all know alocasia does not travel well anddddd they come back)
From start to finish the transaction was amazing. They gave me a discount for my next order even though I didn't ask for one because I knew the risks, and they continued to answer my questions and help me! Will def order again from them and would encourage others to as well!
