How Izzy's Tropicals Packs & Ships Your Plants

At Izzy's Tropicals, we know that getting a healthy, thriving plant delivered to your door takes more than just a great shipping carrier — it takes care, expertise, and the right materials. Here's an inside look at how your plants are prepared and shipped from our greenhouse partners to your home.

Step 1: Order Review & Plant Selection Every order begins with a careful review of what you've purchased. Plants are hand-selected by our licensed nursery partners in Central Florida and Southern California — choosing specimens that are healthy, well-rooted, and ready to thrive in a new home. Only plants free from signs of stress, pests, or disease are approved for shipment.

Step 2: Pre-Ship Preparation Before packing, soil is allowed to dry slightly for most tropical varieties. This reduces weight, minimizes the risk of root rot during transit, and keeps your plant comfortable on its journey.

Step 3: Secure Wrapping Each plant is individually wrapped to protect its foliage and root system:

  • Foliage is gently gathered and wrapped in paper plant sleeves sized to the plant
  • Wooden sticks are used to secure the plant and prevent movement
  • The pot or root ball is secured to contain any soil or moisture

Step 4: Box Packing Plants are packed in curated plant boxes sized to fit each order. Sustainable, paper-based packing materials are used throughout — keeping single-use plastics to a minimum. Wooden sticks and properly sized plant sleeves ensure nothing shifts or tips during transit.

Step 5: Climate Considerations Tropical plants are sensitive to temperature extremes. During cold months, a heat pack is strongly recommended for orders shipping to cold-weather regions — one heat pack per every 3–4 plants. Heat packs are available to add to your cart before checkout and are the customer's responsibility to include. Orders where a heat pack was not added are not eligible for our 30-Day Arrive Alive Guarantee if cold damage occurs. Shipments may be held during extreme weather conditions to protect your plant.

Step 6: Shipping & Tracking We ship via UPS, FedEx, and USPS, selecting the fastest available service for live plant orders. Orders placed on weekends or holidays are processed the next business day. Once your order ships, you'll receive a tracking number via email so you can follow your plant every step of the way. For full details on processing and delivery times, visit our Shipping & Delivery Policy.

When Your Plant Arrives Bring your package inside as soon as possible after delivery. Open the box immediately, remove all wrapping materials, and place your plant in bright indirect light. Water only if the soil feels dry, and allow a few days to acclimate before repotting. Minor post-transit stress such as slight drooping or a damaged leaf is normal and typically resolves within a few days with routine care.
